ADVENTURE ABOVE & BELOW THE JUNGLE

Cenote Trail

3 CENOTES & JUNGLE TRAIL BIKING

Discover the variety of caverns, underground rivers & open sinkholes that fill the Mayan forest around Tulum. Considered by the ancients as portals into the underworld, the cenotes are on of the major attractions of the region. Our Cenote Trail tour takes you by mountain bike into the jungle, into the water and also above the canopy where we zip line among the tree-tops.

Filled with history and mystery, these fascinating spaces are home to the ancient remains of humans and animals going back to the Ice Age, as well as amazing rock formations, sections of underground rivers and the clearest water you are likely to swim in, ever! We will explore 3 different cenotes, each very different from the other, allowing you to get a feel for the variety that exist (there are thousands) and ride some great forest trails on MTB.

We start the day with a bike ride 4km from Tulum along quiet & peaceful trails. There is virtually no traffic in this section of forest making it extremely safe & enjoyable to ride among the tropical vegetation. You can choose from easy & flat surface to a more challenging trail, depending on your level and sense of adventure. Either way, the biking is exhilarating in this environment and is a great way to get the body moving and motivated for exploring cenotes and jumping in some cool, freshwater. Please note you are provided with a quality bike & helmet and must feel comfortable on a bike as well as consider yourself capable of cycling a minimum of 5 miles / 9 km on a mountain bike with changes of gears.  We allow plenty of time for stops and re-hydrating and there are many interesting spots beside the trail to hop off and have a look at.

We then park our bikes and hit the cenote trail, where you can practice cliff jumps, canoe across an enormous open cenote full of wildlife, snorkel in the clearest of water and zipline above. This combination gives you both an underwater and airborne view of the cenotes and the complex systems that link them together. All the cenotes you will swim in are linked together by caves and underground rivers, part of Sac Actun: the largest explored flooded cave in the world! Impressive rock formations and underwater vews full of aquatic life, snorkelling in these cenotes is like getting a taste of another world.

Lunch is a delicious traditional meal made by the local community who live and help maintain the cenotes.

Led by expert guides, this is a great means to have an active adventure around Tulum, stopping to swim, snorkel and have a whole lot of fun while riding quality bikes through the jungle. You will also learn a lot about the local environment and how the cenotes formed, as well as their importance throughout the millennia to all the residents of the Yucatan peninsula.
