Our morning begins around the shores of Lake Cobá, where wetlands attract an impressive diversity of waterbirds. Depending on the season, we may encounter species such as Least Grebe, Ruddy Crake, Limpkin, Snail Kite, Purple Gallinule, and many others. The surrounding vegetation also provides excellent opportunities to observe tanagers, orioles, seedeaters, flycatchers, and numerous forest birds.

As soon as the archaeological site opens, we enter before most visitors arrive, enjoying the tranquility of the forest as we search for some of the peninsula's most iconic birds, including Ocellated Turkey, Lesson's and Turquoise-browed Motmots, Black-headed, Gartered and Collared Trogons, Masked and Black-crowned Tityras, Yucatán Amazon, Yucatán Jay, and many more.

The remarkable combination of lakes, freshwater wetlands, mature tropical forest, and one of the Yucatán Peninsula's most important archaeological sites makes Cobá one of the region's premier birdwatching destinations. Depending on the season, it is possible to observe between 40 and 80 bird species during the excursion.
